Rain Jar for your Wedding

I am resurrecting a post from May 19, 2008 in honor of the rain yesterday. Since this post, I have certainly captured a lot of rainy weddings, and will do a separate blog post about them!

– – –

Did it rain on your wedding day? It did on mine. I was about in tears on the way to the outdoor ceremony. But it cleared up in time to do it outside (paved area) so it worked out. But I wish I had thought of the Rain Jar before then! A few years later I shot a wedding for a couple where it poured all morning. I happened to have a mason jar in my car and so I put it out by my tire in the parking lot and caught rain all morning. I later gave it to them. They loved it!

Then I thought, this is a cool gift. What seems like an inconvenience can be cherished forever! So I made my first rain jar. I wrote a little poem, put it on a tag with ribbon and used one of my little square glass bottles with a cork. I waited for a rainy wedding. I seriously was excited to be able to give this to one of my clients! But although I have seen a lot of rainy weekends, none were enough to rain out a wedding.

But friends Kyle and Megan were married on May 10, 2008 and it rained all week and all morning! I was so worried that their outdoor ceremony would be nixed. But God provided! I can’t wait to upload the photos of the amazing blue sky and sun on Megan’s dress! But I still gave them the rain jar. She cried. How cool is that!

Stacy & Randolph | Ellicott City Engagement

Stacy and Randolph live in Ellicott City. As in, on Main St… historic Ellicott City. If you haven’t been there, go now! When I was in college at UMBC, Pete and I would meet for dates at The Phoenix for crab dip… sorry, back to this post! So when they asked if we could shoot downtown I jumped at the chance. I love shooting downtown, but it seemed busier than ever on a Monday evening! We took a walk through the path and then back up the street towards their house. I love that they will always have photos of them during their first years starting out in Ellicott City! They get married THIS FRIDAY! Whoo hoo! Congrats, you two and I look forward to the wedding!

Myra & Jeff | Swan Harbor Wedding

Myra and Jeff had such a beautiful wedding and I am beaming with pride to share it with you. Partly because Myra met me at a bridal show I hosted in 2012. It is there that she met with me, Marcie of Celebrating Love by Marcie, Stacy of Stacy Bowen Flowers and Santoni’s Catering. That we all got to work together to bring our best for Myra was a dream! She could not have been a more perfect client to work with! These gals brought her vision to life in an incredible way and it soooo reflected Mrya and Jeff!

They were married at Swan Harbor outdoors and danced the night away under a tent. Just like her engagement session, Myra chose aqua and orange as her main colors with accents of burlap and lace. Myra is a stunning gorgeous gal and looks glamorous in anything she wears! Her gown was AMAZING! It glimmered all day! Stacy Bowen Flowers created incredible burst of orange color with the bouquets wrapped in burlap and tied with lace! I love that Myra’s something blue were her stunning heels, I just had to shoot her engagement ring with them. They opted for a fist look – mostly to spend time together for a few moments and really focus on the meaning of the day before them. Jeff was overwhelmed when he turned and saw Myra and we had fun near a barn, in a field of soybeans, and along a fence before joining the bridal party for more photos pre-ceremony.

Marcie’s details and styling of the ceremony was perfect. From the moss covered initials with handmade paper flowers in aqua and orange to the stacks of vintage suitcases wrapped in lace and topped with giant ferns, Marcie executed the feel of vintage country with modern colors perfectly. My favorite piece was the rustic trio of an old door painted blue with a doily banner strung on it with 2 old windows with burlap and lace as side panels which she built a custom shelf on to house the arrangements Stacy created all centered under an enormous tree on the lawn. Myra’s childhood pastor presided over the ceremony which was very personal and tailored to them.

Marcie’s attention to detail is impeccable. Notice the customized bug spray for guests near the amazing framed burlap seating chart. She even hung a litle banner of lace over the gate guests walked through to the tent. Stacy’s bouquets graced simple tables with burlap runners and honey sticks as favors. But the crowning jewel of the reception tent was the wish tree that Marcie created on a sideboard. Her display of the desserts added a homemade feel to the wedding.

Jeff and Myra danced all nigh among friends and beamed the whole night. I am so glad I got to spend the day with you! Congrats Myra & Jeff! So glad Pete and I can call you friends!!!

I had the pleasure of shooting Alyssa’s senior photos recently and it was a beautiful day! She is just a natural beauty both physically and in her personality! Congrats, Alyssa! Enjoy your senior year at MACA!

Katlyn and Ryan | Shade Trees and Evergreens Wedding

Katlyn and Ryan’s country wedding at Shade Trees and Evergreens was amazing! It was the homemade mason jar and wildflowers, chalkboard sign, burlap and lace kind of wedding out next to a huge pond that feels like home. I loved all the details of this day! You may notice a few items straight from the farm. Both Ryan and Katlyn are super involved in the 4H in Maryland showing cattle (thus the nod to the cute cow sign). Aside from being eleventy-billion degrees in July, I loved capturing every minute of their day. Katlyn was beaming. She and Ryan chose to see each other out on the dock before the ceremony for some time alone (and photos!!). First looks don’t have to be reserved for just the groom, Katlyn’s father saw her for the first time  in her gown as well, and it was a sweet moment to behold. Checkout their alternative guestbook – leaving a note and choosing a jar for which anniversary they would read it in a few years. Multiple flavored whoopie pies as cake alternative? Yum! Congrats Katlyn & Ryan!
